This week I would like to introduce my farming colleague Joel Orchard from Future Feeders.
He is grows banana’s organically in Byron Shire, and also grows a variety of organic crops….. Joel is an active member of the growing community in the Northern Rivers, and passionate about supporting young farmers and encouraging collaboration.
Joel took on an abandoned banana farm at the beginning of 2014 and has since been contributing to it’s regeneration and conversion to a polyculture under permaculture and ecological farming principles.
He has also been working alongside Craig – Byron Bay Banana Man to develop his skills in sustainable Banana farm management and ecological production.
His small acre Banana farm in Montecollum produces mainly an old variety of Lady Fingers and some Ducasse Sugar Banana.
Banana is the largest herbaceous flowering plant.. Traditionally in Ayurveda bananas are recommended to balance Vata and Pitta doshas, and can be used to replenish electrolytes due to its high mineral and vitamin content, as well as feed muscles, amongst many other actions…..
