We had every intention of writing a Farmletter for Christmas, however we were just too exhausted!

We have had a gruelling year of farming, continuing to establishing our farm business and continually improving our art and skills in growing food in commercial quantities. We feel proud of what we have created, and somewhat daunted and overwhelmed knowing how much we don’t know! Having a Family, a Farm Business, and a Farm, with all the inherent risks involved is a challenge…and one of our goals for 2018 is to create more balance in our world.

We slow down our production at this time of year, as my 2 children are at home for school holidays, and this time of year is notoriously difficult to farm – hot, humid weather makes the work longer, harder and the weed and pest pressures are high…also the risks of extreme weather events – cyclones, hail storms, flooding, high temperatures on the field, are ever possible….AND, we also need a holiday too!

However, demand for our products is very high at the moment, and our crops are growing so well on the field (ABOVE – salad mix crop photo taken yesterday), so we will continue to juggle the demands on us to get these wonderful crops grown, harvested and delivered to our lovely customers.

This time of year also sees us re-evaluating, and planning for the upcoming year – talking to customers about what crops they want and volumes, and looking at every facet of our business for improvements in efficiency, and new ways to farm our crops successfully.

I am also taking some time in January to work on the course that we will be presenting through Byron Community College in Feb 2018 – The Business of Permaculture – https://www.byroncollege.org.au/course/PermacultureBusiness
This course will be aimed at those who are thinking of starting up a farm business, or are struggling in a current farm business…we will be looking at what it takes to be a Farmpreneur 🙂

We would like to thank all of you who continue to purchase our produce from local outlets, or directly from us….this support gives us the inspiration to provide more high quality, affordable, organic foods and flowers to this community.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year filled with Prosperity, Peace and Well-Being, with love from us at Lifeforce Food Gardens!
