I was very fortunate to spend the past week with soil regeneration expert Paul Taylor at his Living soils for Vitality 5 day intensive at Zaytuna Farm (Geoff Lawton – Permaculture god).

Through ‘heritage farming’ practices we learned it is possible to regenerate even the most degraded toxic sites by creating a special compost with high and diverse microbial activity, which is then used as an inoculant for brewing compost tea in a purpose built and tested brewer. We also learned how to make organic fertiliser and some other natural soil supplements.

As organic farmers it is not just that we replace chemical inputs with organic ones, but that we become truly sustainable by being empowered to create our own fertilisers to feed the soil ecology during intensive production to increase soil fertility over time, rather than buying products from large Agro-chemical companies that kill soil over time.
