It’s been a long time between farmletters…So, what have we been up to?
Well, we have now moved home, and taken on the long-term lease of a beautiful farm in Main Arm, NSW. This has presented enormous logistical challenges for Isaac and I, and a LOT of extra work in building / moving farm infrastructure, as well as keeping up with the farm production at our Mullumbimby farm, and maintaining the business. Thankfully, we are nearly set up here now. We will start planting in Main Arm next year, which is very exciting.
We have also needed to restructure our farm business, the extra work of moving, as well as farming, has had its toll on us. So to avoid further farmer burnout, we have needed to simplify our business further. This has resulted in us needing to stop all local wholesale of our produce. This was a very difficult decision to make, as our intention for the farm was to provide produce to our local community of Byron Shire…however, as a small family farm, we are not yet able to generate enough income locally from sales of our produce and flowers to support us financially and logistically, without access to our local farmers market – (Mullumbimby Farmers Market). And it is too much of a stretch for us to manage farmers markets and local wholesale at this time, and keep our sanity!
So, for all of our farm-ily on the Gold Coast, you will find us, with our Lifeforce greens, herbs, seedlings and flowers each Sunday at Bundall Farmers Market.
We trust that an opportunity will arise in the future, that will enable us to provide our locally grown Mullum food and flowers to the Mullum community and we look forward to that!
As we roll into summer, the farm is thriving…we have never had so much produce and flowers, and I am loving all the extra shade cloth cover that Isaac has constructed around the farm…the plants are benefitting, and so am I from the protection from the heat of the midday sun 🙂
